Andrea Artley is an accomplished professional flutist who spent over 26 years as Assistant Principal and Principal Flute of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in Washington D.C. During those years she performed for countless audiences across the U.S., Europe, and China. As a flute soloist, she was frequently featured in performances with “Pershing’s Own” Concert Band and Chamber Orchestra in such renowned venues as the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, and Constitution Hall. She was also a featured soloist at the National Flute Association convention, and multiple featured solo performances at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. 

Currently, Ms. Artley is the Adjunct Instructor of Flute at Colorado State University-Pueblo. She can also be heard performing as co-principal flute with the Pueblo Symphony and has performed with the Steamboat Springs Symphony, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs.

Chamber music has always been a passion of Ms. Artley. During her career in the D.C. area she performed regularly with various chamber ensembles in recital series held at the Library of Congress, the White House Visitor’s Center and “Pershing’s Own” recital series at Brucker Hall. Chamber music also took her to the halls of the White House and the State Department where she performed for U.S. Presidents and visiting dignitaries. She is currently performing with the Colorado State University-Pueblo Faculty Woodwind Quintet and with the Faculty Flute and Guitar Duo.

As a performer and an educator, Ms. Artley is passionate about learning and sharing her love of music with her community. This has led to recent study of different music educational methods. She recently completed the Kodaly Level I course and is did classes in Adult Professional Studies with the Dalcroze School of the Rockies. The Pueblo Flute Choir is currently under her direction and she coaches the woodwinds from the Ovation Youth Orchestra, part of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony. She maintains a private studio out of her home in Monument, CO.

Ms. Artley graduated from DePaul University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance, studying under Kathryn Lukas and Mary Stolper. While a student at DePaul, she participated in many masterclasses with Donald Peck and received coaching on orchestral repertoire from members of the Chicago Symphony. She has participated in Walfrid Kujala’s summer masterclass and been a participant in the Teton Summer Music Festival. She has also studied with Robert Willoughby, Tim Day, Sandra Church and Alice Weinreb.
